Butterball and Spider Monkey

They’re here!

Darcy Jane Smith and Declan Carter Smith a few minutes after being born.

It’s been an exhausting morning and I think we’re all getting some rest now, but I wanted to post a quick update…

After being up all night I decided to drive in to the hospital and sleep there. The babies had other plans. A few blocks from the hospital, I got a call from Shannon telling me that “head in it’s going to happen today”. I’ll save the gory details for her to cover, but when I got here there were at least 10 people in the room.  About an hour later we went in to the O.R. for delivery.  Shannon just informed me that was 4 hours ago.  And to think on my drive in I was hoping to be asleep by 7am.  I’ll be lucky to be asleep by noon.

Darcy Jane Smith was born first at 7:13 am.  She weighs in at 5lbs 8oz and is 19 inches long.

Declan Carter Smith was born at 7:14 am.  He is a little peanut at only 2lbs 12oz. He is 16.25 inches long.

Everyone is doing great.  Both babies are breathing on their own and they both cried very loudly when they were born.  Declan is on a C-PAP and Darcy is just getting room air oxygen.  They will both be in NICU for at least a week, but Declan will likely be in for a couple of weeks.  We have not talked to the NICU doctor yet for the details, but in the hallway he told me that they’re both doing great.

After we get some rest we will post more photos and more information.
